T-Quilt Time!

Before we start...

What's a T-shirt Quilt and what is a T-shirt blanket?

A T-shirt blanket is typically shirts sewn together, often in a grid pattern, without stabilizer (a material that prevents stretching and helps the shirts keep their shape). It is then backed with a fleece or flannel, and stitched along the squares. It is less expensive and can be done commercially.

A T-shirt quilt on the other hand, will have all aspects of a true quilt. It will have stabilizer for the shirts to prevent warping of the quilt top, batting, backing, quilting to add the overall design and add to the longevity of the piece, and binding to further protect the edges and give a finished appearance. My business only makes T-shirt quilts.

PREP:

All shirts should be washed in fragrance free detergent and dried without fabric softeners!!! Fabric softeners results in shirts that won't adhere to the stabilizer for the quilt. Also, if T-shirts arrive with strong odors, you have the option for them to be laundered specifically to remove odors. More details in the form below.

TIP:

Try prewashing your shirts together before you send them. If they bleed now, they will bleed once they are in a quilt and wouldn't that be a heartache. Biggest offenders are reds and TIE-DYE!

QUILTING CHOICE:

I want this to be fun for you and not overwhelming! You have the option of having me make the quilting decisions for you. It all depends on your purpose for the quilt, sometimes "done" is best! We can also discuss sashing (an option for fabric that goes between the blocks) and thread colors as well. Several of the modern pantograph patterns (the quilted patterns that I quilt all the layers together with) have been suggested for T-shirt quilts, but if you have other requests, please let me know. I'm here to work with you.
